Remington Medical Resort of San Antonio

San Antonio, Texas
Description

The adaptable designers at MAI helped to transform a unique concept in skilled nursing / rehabilitation into a realty. Patients were greeted with a resort-like feel not traditionally associated with a facility of this type.

Design Elements

This “medical resort”, the first of its kind for MAI, was designed as a prototype, able to adapt easily to a wide range of building site configurations. Primary elements that drove the functional design challenge included an I-2 Occupancy Group, a mandatory maximum of 150’ patient proximity to the nurse’s station and the ability to adapt to the 2.4-acre building site. The final design solution resulted in a three-story facility, constructed out of non-combustible metal framing, and featuring two patient room wings, a Café/Library, Barber/Beauty Shop and Physical Therapy area. This innovative design garnered industry recognition as Best Healthcare Project of the Year from Texas Construction Magazine.
