CFA 04739 – Main & Houston

Main & Houston In-Line is a 5,893 sqft Chick-fil-A restaurant located in the heart of San Antonio, TX within the historic Rand Building and only a block from the famous San Antonio River Walk. This project presented a challenge; how can the architectural design merge the historic structure with Chick-fil-A’s modern palette? Through collaboration, Mayse & Associates and Chick-fil-A found unique ways to honor the historical building and deliver Chick-fil-A’s renowned experience.

The restaurant’s design interweaves with the urban fabric of the city. The dining room of the restaurant enhances the historic features of the original with oak boards and powder-coated metal panels. Along the main street, the primary glass façade gifts customers with unobstructed views of city life, while the outdoor seating allows them to feel the hustle and bustle themselves. The kitchen layout provides room for all Chick-fil-A’s traditional back-of house areas. This was achieved through careful space allocation and thoughtful adaptation of their prototypical arrangements. To ensure customers would still receive Chick-fil-A’s efficient drive-thru delivery system, Mayse & Associates worked with consultants and the building owner to develop an exclusive path through the parking garage.

Whether through careful planning and innovation, a way was found to adapt the famous Chick-fil-A design into a historic building, so that their famous menu can be enjoyed in downtown San Antonio.
